RULES AND REGULATIONS FOR DRSF
1. To be eligible, a student must be:
- under 21 years of age
- attending classes from Grade 4 to Grade 12, in a public, separate or private school, or its equivalent (e.g. home-schooled), located within the school board area of Durham region.
2. The deadline for submitting registration is Wednesday, March 27, 2024 at 11:59 p.m.
3. Late entries will not be accepted. There are no exceptions to this policy.
4. Group exhibits (those made by more than one student) are eligible. A group shall consist of no more than two (2) students. If two (2) students enter a group project and they are in different grades, they will compete in the higher grade category.
5. The same exhibitor may not display for competition an identical exhibit at the same regional Science Fairs over several consecutive years. However, a project may be improved and entered again in a subsequent competition.
6. An exhibit cannot be entered in more than one regional Science Fair per season for competition leading to the Canada Wide Science Fair.
7. An exhibitor may not present more than one exhibit each year.
8. All exhibitors must provide a brief written description of their project (maximum 100 words) in the space provided in the project registration form.
9. All exhibits, including all accessories, must fit on a table or floor space not to exceed 0.8 m front to back, 1.20 m side to side and 3.5 m maximum height from the floor. Exhibits which exceed these dimensions will be disqualified.
10. Exhibits should be sturdy, self-supporting and must meet Youth Science Canada (YSC) safety regulations (read below). Moving parts must be firmly attached. Electricity (AC110 volt and 60 cycle) will be supplied but no gas or water outlets. Switches and cords must be supplied by the student, CSA approved and protected by fuses. Cell or battery-fed circuits should be both safe in design and operation.
11. Projects must not involve living vertebrates except for observations of normal living patterns. No living vertebrates shall be displayed in exhibits. For details see the YSC rules related to human and/or animal use.
12. There is an entry fee of $10 (Cdn) for each participant in the Durham Regional Science Fair (DRSF) for 2024. Each participant in the Fair including each member of a pair of students with one project must pay this fee of $10 per participant. Details for payment will be provided when registration opens in mid-February 2024.
